Avoiding Wider FMD Outbreak, VP Suggests to Prevent Infected Animal Distribution

West Lombok, wapresri.go.id – Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) infects the animals prior to the Ied Adha 1443 Hijriah which will be held on July 10, 2022. The government has done preventive attempts to avoid this outbreak going wider. Besides medical attempts, VP suggested quarantining infected cattle when visiting Rayan Baru, Gerung Selatan village, Gerung District, West Lombok, NTB, on Thursday (6/30).

“All officers should be aware, not let any infected cow transferred to another region, especially in this sacrificing season,” he warned in his press statement after inspecting the cow cattle of stock farmers group (KTT) Rayan Baru.

Furthermore, the VP elaborated that other than the distribution of the cows, intensive medical care shall continue.

“Vaccination should be done in all regions to avoid this FMD outbreak. So the healthy should be vaccinated in order to get the immunity, while the infected, just like what happened in Kampung Rayan Baru, should be cured intensively.”

Regarding the demand for cattle supplies for sacrificing season, the VP suggested people select other kinds of animals which has been confirmed as healthy.

“There are rules for the eligible cattle. If there is no cow eligible for sacrificing in a region, people can take another animal, such as a goat, the healthy one, or lamb,” the VP stated.
On the other topic, the VP thought that the different day of 10 Dzulhijjah this year was very common. Having such wisdom, people would still celebrate Ied Al-Adha properly.

“We are used to having some difference. In the past days, people hued and cried over diversity, but now, our people are getting wiser. So if there are some differences, we highly tolerate them. It’s no longer a problem,” he said.

At the end of his statement, the VP appreciate all parties for their hard work and commitment to overcoming the FMD outbreak, especially in Kampung Rayan Baru, so that the disease could not expand and all cattle can be cured 100 percent.
