Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – Vice President (VP) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin received the Chair of the Indonesian Academics of Science (AIPI), Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, and his staff at the Vice President’s Official Residence, Jalan Diponegoro Number 2, Jakarta, Wednesday afternoon (21/09/2022).

In the meeting, AIPI reported on the successful implementation of Science 20, which is one of a series of events from the G20 Presidency. The VP appreciated this success and encouraged similar activities to be carried out in the future by carrying out different themes and presenting not only senior scientists, but also young scientists.

“The VP really appreciates this meeting, he even hopes that there will be a follow-up meeting. Even the VP is willing to be the main speaker in the follow-up scientist meeting, but what is expected is mainly young scientists as re-generation,” said the Spokesperson for the VP, Masduki Baidlowi, after accompanying the Vice President in the meeting.

“So the scientists who now have the potential of these young scientists are very large, it was also reported earlier, and the VP really appreciates because this is related to whether this nation will progress or not in the future,” he said.

To the VP, AIPI also reported the results of the agreement obtained from the Science 20 meeting.

The first agreement that was obtained from the event was that all scientists who were present both from within the country and abroad agreed that all applications in human life must be based on science.

“What was agreed was that all applications in various fields of life, whether it was about sustainability for the environment, whether it was for climate change or in the health sector if you want to apply it, must be based on science. This means that it is based on application,” said Masduki.

Masduki further said that the second agreement that resulted from the Science 20 meeting was that all findings produced from science should not take human victims.

“The second thing that was reported was that Indonesia proposed how to make the findings of science and technology, even though there are various consequences, changes, disruptions, don’t let the human being become a victim. So what is called a technological invention is based on a human base, to take advantage of humans. Therefore, as small as possible humans at least do not become victims, especially in the context of work. That is the core of the agreement,” said Masduki.

“It was proposed by Indonesian scientists and agreed all over the world. So Indonesia’s initiatives and ideas are accepted, that any changes that occur due to the findings of new science and technology must be centered on human existence,” he added.

Responding to this, Masduki revealed that the VP welcomed the initiatives and proposals given by Indonesia. The VP views that a forum like this that involves stakeholders from within and outside the country is a strategic means to exchange ideas for the benefit of people around the world, in this case, especially scientists.

“Science and technology are the key for all countries to progress,” he concluded.

For information, Science20 (S20) is a meeting/forum for researchers and scientists from all G20 countries to gather and discuss science related to improving global health as well as science and its application in human life.

In addition to the Chairman of AIPI, present at the meeting were Deputy Chairman of AIPI Sofian Effendi, Deputy Chairman of Development Policy BRIN Mego, Member of the AIPI Basic Science Commission Jamaluddin Jompa, Member of the AIPI Medical Sciences Commission Sofia Mubarika Haryana.

Meanwhile, the VP was accompanied by the Head of the Vice President’s Secretariat Ahmad Erani Yustika, Deputy for Government Policy Support and National Insight Velix Wanggai, and Special Staff for the VP Masduki Baidlowi. (NN/LHS, BPMI – Setwapres)
