Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – The government pays attention to workers through the Institution of Social Security Employment (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) which manages five social security covers including work safety, death, old age, retirement, and employment. In line with this, Vice President (VP) K. H. Ma’ruf Amin encouraged the active participation of stakeholders in strengthening the Employment Social Security program.

“I ask all stakeholders to actively participate in strengthening the employment social security program,” said the VP at the launching of the National Movement for the Protection of Vulnerable Workers and the Presentation of the “Paritrana Award 2021” Employment Social Security Award at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan No. 6 Central Jakarta, Thursday (27/10/2022).

According to the VP, vulnerable workers such as farmers, fishermen, ranchers, and street vendors need protection, a sense of security and peace of mind at work. For this reason, a social safety net strategy is needed to prevent poverty.

“The central government, regional governments, to the village level channel this protection as a social safety net strategy to prevent poverty,” explained the VP.

Furthermore, the VP gave his direction on the active participation of stakeholders in strengthening the Social Security program by expanding the coverage of social security participants.

“First, local governments and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan are expected to continue to expand the coverage of participants. Mainly through regulations and policies so that Wage Recipients and Non-Wage Recipients can all be protected with Employment Social Security,” urged the VP.

Furthermore, the VP said it was necessary to strengthen the governance of social security protection programs in a professional and accountable manner.

“Secondly, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan must manage this protection program in a professional and accountable manner. The funds collected must be managed and developed properly so that there will be no deficit or disrupt the company’s financial flows,” he explained.

The third directive is the need for synergy between stakeholders in the successful elimination of extreme poverty, through the provision of assistance and social security.

“Regarding the issue of poverty, according to the Presidential Instruction on the Acceleration of the Elimination of Extreme Poverty, one of the program strategies for accelerating the elimination of extreme poverty is to reduce the burden of public expenditure,” stated the VP.
Finally, the VP requested that all parties cooperate in the success of the National Movement for the Protection of Workers in accordance with their respective duties.

“I ask all parties to help each other in the success of the national movement that was launched, in accordance with the capacity and focus of their duties,” he hoped.

“This movement is expected to provide benefits for the protection of vulnerable workers nationally,” added the VP.

Closing his remarks, the VP expressed his appreciation and congratulations to the recipients of the 2021 Paritrana Award and hoped for increased protection and welfare for workers.

“I congratulate the recipients of the 2021 Paritrana Award. Hopefully, this achievement will spur motivation to go further in providing protection for workers,” concluded the VP.

Previously, the President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, said that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan had a full commitment to continue cooperation with stakeholders to work together to advance the social security assistance program.

“We are committed to being able to work with stakeholders, so let’s work together to make it even better,” said Anggoro.
