When inaugurated on October 20, 2024, President Prabowo Subianto stated Indonesia’s commitment to food and energy self-sufficiency as the main step to face increasingly complex global challenges.
Overseeing this commitment, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming accompanied by the Head of the River Area Center of the Ministry of Public Works, Maryadi Utama, directly inspected the Jlantah Dam Construction project in Tlobo Village and Karangsari Village, Jatiyoso District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, on Friday (27/12/2024).
The review aims to ensure that the progress of the dam construction, which has reached 98.55%, is following the established timeline.
The dam with a capacity of 10.97 million m³ with an inundation area of 50.45 hectares is projected to be one of the supporters of the national food security program in terms of irrigation benefits and energy security from the benefits of electrical energy produced.
During the visit, the Vice President emphasized the importance of sustainable water resources to support agricultural productivity as well as a strategic step in mitigating the impact of climate change.
The Jlantah Dam will drain 1,494 hectares of rice fields and is projected to be useful for reducing flooding (70.33 m³/second) with a land area of 87 hectares, a raw water source of 150 liters per second, a potential Solar Power Plant (PLTS) of 10 Megawatts and a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) of up to 0.625 Megawatts, as well as for tourism.
In addition, the Vice President also highlighted the opportunity for this dam to support the development of renewable energy to reduce dependence on fossil energy. This is in line with Indonesia’s vision to strengthen energy security through the diversification of energy sources that are more environmentally friendly.
For this reason, he hopes that the Jlantah Dam project will be completed on time, so that farmers can immediately increase production, and the surrounding community will get wider benefits, both in terms of economy and environment.
