Jakarta-wapresri.go.id. The Indonesian Dentists Association (PDGI) led by its chairwoman Farichah Hanum paid a courtesy call to Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice President’s Office on Jalan Merdeka Utara, Jakarta, Wednesday (March 29).

Beginning the meeting, Farichah reported to the Vice President that the number of PDGI members has now reached approximately 27,800 dentists and 3,000 dental specialists that spread throughout Indonesia.

Farichah further told about the organization’s 26th congress that will be held in Medan on May 4 to 6, 2017. Other than electing a new chairperson of the organization, she added, this congress would also discuss strategic issues related to the development of the organization.

Fachrihah then invited the Vice President to inaugurate the opening of the congress and to give guidance and encouragement to all PDGI members.

Farichah on the occasion also highlighted the importance of the state’s role in supporting oral health.

“Oral health is an initial entrance to the health of other organs. Many serious diseases can even be prevented by improving oral health,” she said.

In response, the Vice President appreciated the dentist organization and its programs. He then encouraged PDGI members to continuously develop their quality of services to the community through the adoption of increasingly advanced technology.

In addition to health services, the Vice President saw there are three other factors affecting public health, namely lifestyle, environment, and genetic factor. He underscored, health services alone is not enough, and thus it needs promotion and education to the community.

“Health care is therefore only a tip of the components, after the three other factors,” said the Vice President.

In the meeting, the Vice President also confirmed his willingness to attend the opening of the congress.
