Jakarta. Jalan Sehat walkathon, the Nusantara Sehat (the healthy nation) program, and national nutrition campaigns are hoped able to promote healthy life among the society.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated this slightly before waving the flag signing the start of the Jalan Sehat walkathon to commemorate the 51st National Health Day (HKN) held at the National Monument today.

The Vice President at his remarks underscored the importance of preventive efforts to realize a healthy life.

“Being healthy is not only about how to keep our body fit by exercising, but also by having nutritious food, enough rest, positive attitude, and clean environment,” he said.

Mr Kalla also wanted to revitalize old programs such as “Friday Workout” to introduce a healthy habit.

Healthy movement and programs, according to him, is unquestionably supporting the nation to realize public welfare.

After the speech, the Vice President joined the walkathon with the public, taking the route from the National Monument to Sarinah and back to the monument.

Previously, Health Minister Nila Farid Moeloek reported that the theme of the commemoration was “Indonesia loves to be healthy: a healthy generation ready to build the nation”.

She further said that the Nusantara Sehat program launched at the event is an effort to improve basic healthcare including preventive, promotive, and curative actions, involving 5 to 9 health workers to be deployed in remote areas in the archipelago.

“The health workers consist of physicians, dentists, nurses, pubic health practitioners, environmental experts, medical laboratorists, nutritionist, and pharmacist,” said the minister.

With the Nusantara Sehat team, she continued, it is hoped there will be an improved healthcare and welfare especially for people living in remote and border areas.
