Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – The 1945 Constitution as the state constitution is not just a state document, but it is also the foundations and basic principles of government administration and the state that have been agreed upon. Therefore, the constitution must be a reference in administering the nation and state.

“The constitution must be a reference, the main source in drafting laws, and all the regulations under it that cover the life of the nation and state. The reference includes the principles, values, intentions, and goals in it. So it is not only called the fulfillment of formal requirements, without concrete realization,” said Vice President (VP) K.H Ma’ruf Amin at the Commemoration of Constitution Day and the 77th Anniversary of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) at the Nusantara IV Building MPR/DPR/DPD RI, Jalan Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Thursday (18/08/2022).

Furthermore, the VP said, to truly implement the constitution as the basis of the state, high awareness and sincerity are needed.

“For that, awareness and sincerity are needed in reviving the soul of the constitution as the nation’s morality, including the values of honesty, sincerity, togetherness, and humanity,” added the VP.

In particular, explained the VP, in reaffirming the principles and objectives to build an established and strong life order after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The principles, values, and goals of the state contained in the constitution are a solid and prospective basis for efforts to restore and revitalize the state. For that, we must affirm several important fundamentals of the state, namely identity as a strong nation, highlighting mutual cooperation, unity in diversity, optimism in the most difficult circumstances, and excellence in work ethic,” he explained.

Meanwhile, from an economic perspective, the VP views the constitution as a strong foundation for economic revival.

“In order for the constitution to become the basis for economic revival after the pandemic, the regulations that are formed must prioritize justice and humanity, and be supported by the function of maintaining order,” described the VP.

Closing his remarks, the VP hoped that all levels of leadership and members of the MPR RI, DPR RI (The House of Representatives of The Republic of Indonesia), and DPD RI (Regional Representative Council of The Republic of Indonesia) could continue to oversee the upholding of the constitution in Indonesia and be at the forefront of guarding the integrity of the Indonesian state.

“Hopefully all the Leaders and Members of the MPR RI are always under the protection and guidance of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and have a fighting spirit that does not fade in carrying out the mandate of the constitution and be at the forefront in guarding the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia together with the DPR RI, DPD RI, and other State High Institutions,” concluded the VP.

Previously, the Chairman of the MPR RI, Bambang Soesatyo, said that the founding fathers of the nation had passed down the nation’s fundamental values. For this reason, it is the obligation of the successors of the nation, both the government and the community, to continue to implement it.

The Indonesian people must feel that in the Pancasila state, the entire Indonesian nation and the entire homeland of Indonesia feel protected and progress in prosperity,” he said.
