The Covid-19 pandemic has undeniably affected people’s daily activities and productivity, including in sports fields. Therefore, the commemoration of the 39th National Sports Day (HAORNAS) 2022 was expected to be a momentum to re-ignite the enthusiasm of all nation elements to continuously stimulate the development of sports in Indonesia.

“We must continue to encourage the spirit of building national sports, as it gives a lot of meaning in life,” said Vice President Ma’ruf Amin while opening the commemoration of the 39th HAORNAS 2022, which was held at the Batakan Stadium, Jl. Mulawarman, Manggar, Balikpapan City, Friday (09/09/2022).

According to the Vice President, sports exercises have the concept of equality that was able to unite diversity and build a more prosperous and beneficial life.

“Sport is not just about stamina, but about a more quality of life. Sport builds discipline, toughness, sportsmanship, and cooperation. All of them are useful in our lives,” explained the Vice President.

“Sports also shape the character of the nation, they can even be a medium to maintain world peace,” he added.

Furthermore, the Vice President explained that the event-themed “Together Score Champions” was an opportunity for the community to increase their contribution and achievements in the field of sports. In addition, he also hoped that sports activities could be cultivated permanently in the community.

“Together, we make sports a part of everyday life, so that the Indonesian people live a healthy and active lifestyle,” he said.

Then for educators, coaches and officials, the Vice President is expected to be able to encourage athletes’ achievements in various competitions, as well as find superior talents in the field of sports.

“Educators and coaches, should be serious about raising the seeds of national sports talent so that the nation’s dignity is raised through the achievements of athletes on the world stage,” concluded the Vice President.

At the peak of the HAORNAS commemoration which was enlivened by colossal dance performances and entertainment attractions, awards were also given to some figures who had supported Indonesian sports. These awards were divided into several categories, namely the Achievement Sports Builder which was given to Muhadjir Effendy (Coordinating Minister for Development People and Culture), Yasonna Laoly (Minister of Law and Human Rights), Budi Gunawan (Chairman of E-Sport Board), Isran Noor (Governor of East Kalimantan), Ridwan Kamil (Governor of West Java), and Rahmad Masud (Mayor of Balikpapan).

Furthermore, for the Achievement Athlete Category, Sri Hartati (Heavy Lifting), Syamsul Anwar Harahap (Retired Boxing Athlete), Risdianto (Retired Football Athlete), Rumi Iqbal Doewes (Boccia Sports Coach), Qomarul Lailiah (Badminton Referee).

Meanwhile, the category of Community Sports Mover was given to Abdul Gani, Adolfina Grace Tangkudung, and Sami Leo Lantang.

Also present to accompany the Vice President, the Head of the Vice President Secretariat Ahmad Erani Yustika, Deputy for Human Development Policy Support and Development Equity Suprayoga Hadi, Special Staff of the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi and Arif Rahman, and Expert Team Member of the Vice President Farhat Brachma.
