Jakarta-wapresri.go.id Vice President Jusuf Kalla believed that Karate, a Japanese sport that is very popular in the world, can be made as a medium to build personal characters, especially of the youth.

He stated this while inaugurating the opening of the 12th Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF) International Championship, at the Jakarta International Expo (JIEXPO) Kemayoran, on Saturday (Aug. 27).

To realize this, he said, the championship should be supported with high sportsmanship.

The Vice President added that the championship followed by participants from 47 countries had also become a place to establish friendship among nations around the world.

After delivering his speech, accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nachrowi, and President of the International Karate SKIF Nobuhaki Kanazawa, the Vice President hit a foam block as a sign of official opening of the championship, which is slated to last from August 26 to 28, 2016.

After that, the Vice President had the opportunity to watch a number of attractions, including Betawi dance, karate demonstration by Indonesian Little Karatedo group, the President of the International Karate Nobuhaki Kanazawa, and five world Karate athletes.
