Bekasi, – As the largest population in Indonesia, Indonesian Muslims also determined the quality and progress of this nation through aspects of faith and piety as well as aspects of science and technology. In addition, amid the rise of terrorism issues at the global level, people were increasingly required to maintain moderate Islamic values (wasathiyyah) which prioritized ethics and good ways.

For this reason, the recent violent incident at the pesantren in Tangerang was considered not in line with the Islamic values of wasathiyyah and was not expected to be repeated in other Islamic education worlds.

“This really needs to be monitored again. It tarnished the world of pesantren, violence occurred in pesantren. I hope that it won’t happen in Islamic schools like Al Azhar,” said Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin while giving a public lecture to the entire academic community and Al Azhar teachers throughout Indonesia in celebration of the 37th anniversary of the Waqaf Al Foundation, Muhajirien Jakapermai, at the Auditorium of the Al Muhajirien Education and Training Center Building, Jl. Cut Mutia No. 17, Margahayu, Bekasi, West Java, Wednesday (31/08/2022).

In the event entitled “Building Muttaqien, Mu’ammirin, and Wasathiyyin Generations”, the Vice President further emphasized the importance of instilling wasathy values from an early age.

“If children are being taught by violence, they will grow with bad attitudes. Being Muslims must act in good manners,” he said.

Even in preaching, added the Vice President, it must be done in smooth ways.

“The harsh method is also one of the devil’s influences to make us angry, emotional, and so on. So, we need to fasta’in billah, ask Allah for protection,” the Vice President urged.

Ending his remarks, the Vice President appreciated the Waqaf Al Muhajirien Jakapermai Foundation which was in partnership with the Al Azhar Islamic Boarding School Foundation to take a real role in the progress of the people.

“Hopefully the 37th anniversary of the Waqaf Al Muhajirien Jakapermai Foundation goes well and solemnly, and the Waqaf Al Muhajirien Jakapermai Foundation continues to advance, working for unity in diversity towards advanced Indonesia,” he concluded.

Previously, the Chairperson of the Waqaf Al Muhajirien Jakapermai Foundation, Muhammad Syafiudin, told of the development of this foundation, from its establishment until it was able to manage ten Al Azhar Islamic schools and one Ibtidaiyah madrasa, including the Jami’ Al Azhar Mosque in Bekasi. He also mentioned that the public lecture, which was held as part of the 37th-anniversary series, was open to the general public.

“This public lecture was originally scheduled for teachers and employees of the Al Muhajirien Jakapermai Waqaf Foundation, and only Al Azhar teachers throughout Indonesia. However, the enthusiasm of the academic community was so large that today it was open to the public, both on-site and online, “said Syafiudin.

Also present on this occasion were Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum and the entire academic community and Al Azhar teachers from all over Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Vice President was accompanied by the Head of the Vice President Secretariat Ahmad Erani Yustika, Deputy for Government Policy Support and National Outlook Velix Vernando Wanggai, and Special Staff of the Vice President for General Affairs Masykuri Abdillah. (DMA/LHS- BPMI, Setwapres)
