Abu Dhabi, wapresri.go.id – Amid a rapidly changing global and regional strategic environment, world challenges and crises require many countries to collaborate and work together. Especially in terms of maintaining world peace, efforts of moderation and religious tolerance need to be emphasized at all levels of society.
“The solutions of managing moderation in religion are an important instrument in preventing conflict, building consensus, and maintaining the unity and integrity of a nation and a peaceful world order,” said Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin when giving a keynote speech virtually at the 9th Assembly of Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, Tuesday (8/11/2022).
The Vice President then appealed to the international community to continue encouraging Wasathiyyah Islamic diplomacy, Islam that is Rahmatan lil Alamin for the international community.
“Indonesia highly commits to promoting the Wasathiyah Islamic World axis, where Muslims establish global ethics, understand each other, respect each other, and are interdependent. The Islamic world must rise to build a harmonious world civilization,” he explained.
According to the Vice President, cooperation, support, and strategic partnership from all global communities would be very useful in realizing sustainable global and regional peace.
The Vice President further said that Indonesia was also actively sending peacekeeping missions and humanitarian missions under the United Nations. The visit of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to Ukraine and Russia some time ago was an effort to encourage dialogue in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“Indonesia conveys a message about the importance of a diplomatic settlement with a ‘win-win solution’ approach to any conflict between countries,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President then shared the experience of the Indonesian people in maintaining harmony and unity over religious diversity. He stressed that the Indonesian people strive to uphold the principle of religious freedom as stated in the basic ideology of Pancasila and the democratic system of the Indonesian state.
“One of our efforts is to establish an Interfaith Communication Forum (FKUB), whose members consist of religious assemblies in Indonesia to prevent conflicts with religious backgrounds and at the same time resolve internal and inter-religious disputes,” said the Vice President.
As a concrete step, the Vice President said that the Indonesian government together with all elements of the nation were trying to apply the tradition of deliberation and local wisdom in resolving differences and conflicts as well as building a theology of harmony to prevent conflicts from occurring.
