Yogyakarta, wapresri.go.id – The high political temperature ahead of the 2024 General Election has recently been felt in Indonesia, especially after several political parties openly declared Presidential Candidates and Vice Presidential Candidates.

These declarations indeed invite debate not only among party elites but also people who are starting to make their own choices. Therefore, this debate did not become a conflict; Vice President K.H. Ma’ruf Amin appealed to the public to respond calmly to different political decisions.

“If we have different presidential candidates, it is “lakum Capresukum, walana Capresuna” (your presidential candidate is for you, and mine is for me),” said the Vice President jokingly when delivering his National Speech at the Alma Ata University Campus, Jl. Brawijaya No. 99, Tamantirto, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Monday (24/10/2022).

Furthermore, the Vice President said that apart from differences in the presidential-vice presidential elections, differences also often occur in party elections and with their respective visions and missions. For this reason, this matter also needs to be adequately addressed.

“I often say that if we have different parties, we say “Lakum Partaiukum, Walana Pestauna” (your party is for you, and my party is mine), it is just for each party,” he said, followed by laughter from the guests present.

On the same occasion, the Vice President also explained that Indonesia has so far gone through many political contestations, so the differences that occur before the General Election are typical. According to him, the most crucial thing is peacefully dealing with differences in political choices.

“Therefore, because of the differences, we must not be divided,” he concluded.

Not only when giving the Nationality Speech at Alma Ata, but this peace narrative was also conveyed by the Vice President while attending the 2022 National Santri Day Commemoration event at the Prambanan Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Islamic Boarding School on the same day. Hopefully, with regular reminders like this, people will realize that differences/diversity is natural and that peace must be prioritized. (SM/LHS – BPMI Setwapres)
