Ahead of the 2024 General Election, the Vice President Asks Santri to Play a Role in Maintaining Community Stability

Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – Indonesia has entered a political year due to the 2024 General Election starting last June. Political turmoil often occurs in society due to the various dynamics surrounding this political year. Therefore, to maintain the stability of social conditions, all parties must actively play a role, including the Santri.

“Santri must play a role in maintaining the differences in political aspirations. Do not cause conflict in the community,” said Vice President K.H. Ma’ruf Amin when asked by the media after attending the Launching of the BAZNAS Santri Scholarship at the Vice President’s Palace, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan Number 6, Jakarta, Saturday (22/10/2022).

Furthermore, the Vice President said that these differences in political aspirations usually arise from group fanaticism, leading to the assumption that other people with different understandings are wrong. For this reason, many students throughout Indonesia have an essential role in neutralizing fanaticism.

“Those who do not have the same aspirations are not considered enemies and identity politics too so that it would not become a political issue that divides society. I think that is what these students must do,” said the Vice President.

On the other hand, the Vice President also appealed to political parties that will participate in the 2024 General Election to help maintain the narrative of harmony in the campaigns being carried out. Because apart from the community, political parties also play a strategic role in supporting this stability.

“And of course, what we expect from the political parties themselves is that when they address differences, the inequality should not make statements that can lead to hostility,” the Vice President urged.

Closing his press statement, the Vice President again advised that the role of santri is necessary to maintain political stability ahead of the 2024 General Election. Thus, brotherhood among the nation’s children can continue to be established amid the existing dynamics.

“This is what we need to protect and students according to their duties to guard this country so that it remains safe, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is not disturbed, and all people do not have hostility. Everything is still brothers, _ukhuwah wathaniyah_ (brotherhood of countrymen) don’t be torn apart. I think that’s the role of our students,” concluded the Vice President.
