New York-wapresri.go.id. The government’s commitment to ensuring openness and public participation are vital to establish good governance, said Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
“Indonesia believes that openness and public participation will contribute to the improvement of the economic development,” said the Vice President in a ceremony celebrate the 5th anniversary of Open Government Partnership (OGP) held at the UN General Assembly, New York on Tuesday, local time.
In terms of transparency, he added, the Indonesian government has directly involved non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in formulating a policy.
For that reason, the Vice President recommend that central government strengthen its cooperation with local government, related ministries, and NGOs.
“The involvement of civil society is very important and can be completed by increasing public awareness, gathering information, and creating programs that suit with the community,” he said.
As a result, the Vice President continued, the civil society in Indonesia now have more awareness in terms of transparency and public services.
“Now more and more people have a sense of belonging to the development process, and participate and cooperate with the government and other communities,” said Vice President.
On the occasion, the Vice President also invited the members of the OGP to improve network and the effectiveness of the reform policy through a variety of innovations.
Besides, he added, the OGP should be a medium for sharing best practices from both member states and non-member states on the successful implementation of the principles of openness.
“Let us be true development partners for anyone in the world,” added the Vice President.
