Jakarta-wapresri.go.id Vice President Jusuf Kalla met with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, who is also the country’s Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Leaders’ Summit 2017 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Tuesday (Mar. 7).

Hean told the Vice President that IORA is important not only to improve the relationship among countries in the region, but also in particular strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore that has now reached 50 years.

In response, the Vice President told that IORA is established to maintain security and stability in the Indian Ocean in addition to increase the economic potential of the countries in in the region.

“Besides economic development, security in the region is also of important,” said the Vice President.

The Vice President then wished there would no conflict in the Indian Ocean as happened in the South China Sea.

“Each country must respect international laws in force,” the Vice President affirmed.

During the meeting, they also discussed the tourism sector.

Indonesia, the Vice President said, is currently promoting destination priorities, one of which is Bangka Belitung.

Hean in response hoped, rapid tourism promotion by the government of Indonesia be coupled with connectivity that would ease travelers to visit tourist attractions.

“We have therefore built several airports to support the connectivity, such as the construction of the Kulon Progo airport to facilitate tourism in Yogyakarta,” replied the Vice President.

Also attending the meeting were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, Minister of Communications and Information Rudiantara, Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Thomas Lembong, Head of the Secretariat of the Vice President Mohamad Oemar, and Director of the East Asia and Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Edi Yusup.
