Jakarta-wapresri.go.id. Vice President Jusuf Kalla led the funeral ceremony of KH Hasyim Muzadi at the complex of Al Hikam Islamic boarding school in Beji, Depok of West Java province on Thursday afternoon (March 16).
The former chairman of Nahdhatul Ulama (NU), the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, and a member of the Presidential Advisory Council passed away on Thursday (16/3) morning at the age of 73 years after being treated in the Lavalette Hospital in Malang.
When KH Hasyim Muzadi was in the hospital, the Vice President happened to visit him on the sidelines of his working visit to East Java province on January, 16.
To the media, the Vice President expressed his deep sorrow on the loss. According to him, KH Hasyim Muzadi is a moderate cleric who always spreads the values of Islam as a mercy to the universe.
“The government and I personally would like to convey condolences on the passing of KH Hasyim Muzadi. We all know, he is one those who have firm standing yet remain moderate. He also has a very close relationship with scholars around the world who campaign on Islam as rahmatan lil ‘alamin [blessings for the universe],” said the Vice President.
The passing of the Muslim scholar who was born in Tuban on August 8th, 1944, he added, made people now lose one place to consult.
“He is a good organizer and a good preacher, and he is even very sincere,” he said.
The Vice President also said, in addition to the depth of his knowledge, Hasyim Muzadi is accepted by all parties.
“Not only by the NU, but also by friends in Muhammadiyah,” said the Vice President.
Besides Mrs. Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, also present at the funeral were Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Labor Minister Hanif Dakhiri, and a number of other figures.
