Jakarta. To welcome the participants of the 5th Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, President Joko Widodo accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla held a dinner in the Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday (March 6).

In his brief remarks, President Joko Widodo stated that as a country with the largest Muslim population and politically stable, Indonesia is fully supportive to peace in Palestine. Besides, the country has also taken some real actions to promote Palestinian independence.

“We are all here to show our willingness to support Palestinian Independence. We want to be a part of (peace) solution,” said the President.

In the event, all delegates were served with assorted Indonesian foods and cultural performances.

Some of the performances were Zapin dance from Riau and Saman dance from Aceh. Besides, a well-known poet Taufik Ismail also recited a poem entitled ‘Palestine, How Can We Forget You?”.

Some leaders attending this event were they were President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, President of Sudan Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, Prime Minister of Libya Fayez al-Sarraj, Chairman of the State Council of Oman Yahya bin Mahfgouz Al-Mundari, Vice President of Gambia Isatou Njie-Saidy, Prince of Jordan Prince Hussein bin Talal, Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Mohammed Larbi Quid Khalifa, OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani, Foreign Minister of Iran Javad Zarif, and Foreign Minister of Arab Saudi Adel al-Jubeir.

Former Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and former vice president Try Sutrisno were also present at the event. (D/F)
