Jakarta-wapresri.go.id. When receiving Acting Chairperson of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) Ms. Unifah Rosyidi together with PGRI central board members, Vice President Jusuf Kalla emphasized the importance of improving the quality of teachers and distribution of teachers to address the lack of education in some regions.

“The most important thing is to keep the quality high. Regarding the distribution of teachers, (remember) that teachers are no longer employees of a regency or city, but they are provincial civil servants (that) can be moved (across regions in a province),” said the Vice President in the Office of the Vice President on Jalan Merdeka Utara, Jakarta, Thursday (Jan. 12).

In the meeting, the Vice President also talked on the national examination.

When compared to other countries, the Vice President argued, education in Indonesia has relatively improved although it is still left behind some countries.

“Our national examination has also been better,” he said.

The Vice President then advised that the national examination to remain applied throughout the country to make it as a standard parameter.

By national standards which are consistently maintained, said the Vice President, education in Indonesia will be on par with developed countries. The Vice President then provided some data related to examinations conducted in other countries to the board members of PGRI.

In response, Unifah said PGRI is ready to support the government’s policy in implementing the national examination. However, she continued, it need special treatment to implement it in areas affected by disasters such as in Bima of West Nusa Tenggara province, Garut of West Java province, and Aceh.

In addition, Unifah also wished that the government support the efforts to realize PGRI head office as a learning center for teachers with IT-based facilities.

On that occasion, Unifah also invited the Vice President to open PGRI’s fourth National Working Meeting that will be held on January 30, 2017 in Medan, North Sumatra with one of the agenda is the election of the chairman of the organization.

In this regard, the Vice President said he is awaiting President Joko Widodo’s response on whether to attend the event or not.

PGRI is a professional organization of teachers in Indonesia which was established on November 25, 1945.

In 2016, PGRI held a national working meeting which appointed Dr. Unifah Rosyidi, M Ed, to become the acting chairperson of PGRI replacing Dr. H. Sulistyo, M.Pd who passed away after a chamber tube incident at Mintohardjo Naval Hospital in Jakarta.
