Sukoharjo. “The Modern Islamic Boarding School (PPMI) of Assalaam was proven doing efforts to develop education and social welfare,” said Vice President Jusuf Kalla when opening the celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic institution in Sukoharjo, Central Java today.

He further urged that we should continuously develop science and knowledge to cope with the growing change in the world.   “Many countries developed as they paid close attention to the development of knowledge,” he said.

Director of PPMI Assalaam Mahmud Yunus told Vice President that the institution was established by KH Abdullah Marzuki and his wife Hj Siti Aminah Abdullah.

Assalaam, he added, now has about 2,500 students from all over the country and even from abroad. “Our alumni has tolled 20 thousand people,” he said.

At the event Mr Kalla launched and signed a book entitled “Assalaam Beningnya Mata Air Islam (Assalaam, the clear wellspring of Islam)”, a book about the history of Assalaam, and officially inaugurated the Assalaam Center.  

Vice President’s spouse Mrs Mufidah Kalla and Governor of Central Java Province Ganjar Pranowo also attended the event.
