Jakarta. “We need to appreciate the completion of this bridge after 10 years of construction. More importantly, this is to memorialize William Soeryadjaya’s dedication to the country and to the industry world,” stated Vice President Jusuf Kalla when officially launching the William Soeryadjaya bridge crossing Cimanuk river within the Cikopo-Palimanan toll road, in a ceremony held today at Dharmawangsa Hotel in Jakarta.

“I had personally known Willam since 1970s, or for about 40 years. He was a great, humane, and religious figure,” the Vice President recounted his friendship with Mr Soeryadjaya.

To Mr Kalla, Mr Soeryadjaya was such a humble person, and treated everyone the same way, no matter who they are. “We have to take him as a good example,” he said, adding that Mr Soeyadjaya was also trustworthy and caring.

Previously before the Vice President delivered his remarks, Edwin Soeryadjaya, one of Mr Soeryadjaya’s sons, said that the bridge is a project his late father mandated him to finish as it is crucial to support the economy of Majalengka, a region where he was born.

Edwin then appreciated Mr Kalla who was willing to officially launch the bridge.

At the end of the ceremony, the Vice President signed an epigraph marking the bridge’s initial operation. William Soeryadjaya bridge is one of the longest bridges within Cikopo-Palimanan toll road, to be exact at kilometer 161, crossing Cimanuk river, with 280 meters in length.

Attending the event were Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and former National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Hendropriyono.
