Jakarta-wapresri.go.id. Vice President Jusuf Kalla hoped the Indonesian Muslim Brotherhood (Parmusi) remains nonpartisan and consistently becomes a community organization that focuses on preaching, socio-economic development, and education, as stated in its articles of association.
“Parmusi should focus on dakwah bil hal wa bil lisan (Islamic calling by deeds and words),” said the Vice President while attending Parmusi’s 17th anniversary and the organization’s second national congress, at Grand Sahid Hotel, Jakarta, on Saturday (Oct. 1).
At the event held in conjunction with the Islamic New Year, which is started with the hijrah (migration) of the Prophet from Mecca to Medina, the Vice President lamented the phenomenon of migration of Muslims from their countries to other countries to seek for security or a better life.
“Unfortunately, today, the Muslims in Iraq and Syria have had to leave their countries for Europe due to conflicts at home,” said the Vice President.
Earlier, chairman of Parmusi Usamah Hisyam explained his organization is aimed to realize a prosperous civil society under Allah’s bless.
“In the former Parmusi’s statutes, there are three values that are inherited and must be fought for, namely the implementation of the teachings of Islam in society, the realization of an Islamic and prosperous society within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and the national struggle to get the blessing of Allah,” said Usamah.
In this second congress, Usamah said, Parmusi re-affirmed the spirit of “Connecting Muslims” that was inaugurated in the previous congress. This, he added, shows that Parmusi is not an exclusive Islamic organization, and is very open in terms of social and cultural.
“Parmusi wishes to be an Islamic forum with a new paradigm of ‘connecting Muslims’ with main programs on dakwah (Islamic calling), social, economy, and education,” he said.
At the occasion, Parmusi Awards were also conferred to the founding figures of some Islamic movements in the country, namely Prof. Hamka, Mohammad Nasir, Djarnawi Hadikusumo, Ismail Hasan Natareum, Faisal Baasir, and Husnie Tamrin.
The congress was participated by 624 people consisting of members of Parmusi’s central board, provincial board, and district board.
Also attending the event were vice chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid, chairman of Parmusi’s Honorary Board A.M. Fatwa, Nasdem Party chairman Surya Paloh, former Indonesian Military (TNI) Djoko Santoso, and chairman of Parmusi’s advisory board H. Bachtiar Chamsyah.
