Phnom Penh, Kamboja-wapresri.go.id. The Indonesian Government continues to improve the relationship between Indonesia and Cambodia as what the country’s leaders did in the past. A good cooperation cannot be separated from the proximity of the leaders of the two countries.

“The relationship between Norodom Sihanouk Soekarno was outstanding. They were even like brothers. Therefore, we must maintain this good relationship,” Vice President Jusuf Kalla told the media at the official residence of the Indonesian Ambassador in Phnom Penh after attending a the funeral of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, Sunday (03/19/2017).

According to the Vice President, Cambodia has significant position to Indonesia. Besides both countries are fellow ASEAN members, he continued, Indonesia and Cambodia have long had good relationship.

“In the past, during President Soekarno’s era, there was even the Jakarta-Phnom Penh-Pyong Yang-Beijing axis,” said the Vice President.

He also hoped, in the future, relationship between Indonesia and Cambodia will be better, especially in the field of economy and people-to-people contact.

“We are exporting here [Cambodia] more with a value of 450 million dollars per year. In the future, hopefully it could be increased,” he said.

Besides Mrs. Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, also present in the occasion were Head of the Secretariat of the Vice President Mohamad Oemar and Special Staff to the Vice President on Communications and Information Husain Abdullah.
