Jakarta. Vice President Jusuf Kalla briefed 576 Heads of Regional Police and Sub regional Police from all over Indonesia at the Police Science Academy (PTIK) Jakarta, today.  In the occasion, the Vice President instructed police to ensure security during regional elections (Pilkada) that will run simultaneously in almost all regions of the country at the end of this year.

After the reform era, Mr Kalla said, people are eager to give their votes as in almost all levels of government except for sub district heads (camat) people directly votes for their leaders.

With elections held for only three times, he said, it would be relatively easier to manage the security despite the vast area covered.

The National Police Chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti previously said that the simultaneous regional elections which will be held on December, 9 would put Indonesia’s reputation as the world fourth largest democratic country at stake. This, he added, would also be a test for the National Police in securing the events which are renowned as vulnerable to conflicts.

The meeting is arranged to last for four days from 11 to 14 August and takes the theme “National Police to get ready to secure the 2015 simultaneous regional elections”.
