Depok, wapresri.go.id — Islam commands humans to prosper on the earth by utilizing natural resources for the benefit of society. Indeed, the use of natural potential must be balanced with environmental conservation efforts.
To that end, the Vice President (VP) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin asked all elements of society, including the students’ Islamic boarding school (santri), to protect the earth from environmental damage.
“Santri must be active in protecting the earth, may explore but not destroy. Santri must actively maintain the prevention of environmental damage. Don’t destroy it,” said the VP when attending the 2022 National Santri Day Commemoration event at the At Thohir Mosque, Jalan M. Thohir, Depok, West Java, Monday (31/10/2022).
Furthermore, the VP said that in addition to preventing damage to the earth, the students must also be able to contribute to national development, especially economic development.
“It is the responsibility of man to prosper the earth. This is a religious order, and the most important thing is to build the economy,” the VP stated.
The VP also said that the intended economic development includes various sectors that can be developed by utilizing technology.
“Building the economy, so that agriculture, trade, mining, and the creative economy to reach prosperity, because that’s a religious commandment and the main key, is human resources who have knowledge technology,” said the VP.
At the event entitled “Empowered Santri, for a Prosperous Indonesia”, the VP reiterated that the key to a prosperous Indonesia is to optimize the potential of natural and human resources in a productive and wise manner.
“Santri must move, there should be no sleeping land and no idle energy, God willing, prosper,” he urged.
Closing his remarks, the VP advised the students to rise in Building the Country towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.
“I want now to be a santri revival, a revival of santri to welcome 100 years of independence and the birth of a second national awakening,” he concluded.
Previously, Erick Thohir as Chairman of the Islamic Economic Community (MES) said that MES strives to advance the people’s economy, by taking advantage of the great potential that exists in Islamic boarding schools.
“Santri and Islamic boarding schools have great potential that we can optimize in encouraging the progress of the Indonesian nation, as an inclusive organization, MES is well aware of this,” said Erick.
On the same occasion, there was a symbolic handover of the Santri Savings by the Chairman of the OJK Board, Mahendra Siregar and the Chair of MES to 4 (four) student representatives.
Also attending the event were the Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, members of the Expert Council and the MES Central Executive Board.
Meanwhile, the VP was accompanied by the Head of the Vice President’s Secretariat Ahmad Erani Yustika, Deputy for Economic Development Policy Support and Competitiveness Improvement Guntur Iman Nefianto, Special Staff for the VP for Communication and Information Masduki Baidlowi, and the Expert Team of the VP Farhat Brachma and Iggi Haruhman Achsien.
