Jakarta-wapresri.go.id Vice President Jusuf Kalla asserted, sponsorships in the 2018 Asian Games should be based on the principle of win-win cooperation and open to any party.

“Besides, [the sponsors should make] packaging of [the event] in a nuance that is truly Asian. Our national spirit should also be put forward,” said the Vice President in a meeting on sponsorships for the 2018 Asian Games held at the Office of the Vice President in Jakarta, Thursday (March 30).

He further argued, government considered sponsorships vital as the funding for the Asian Games cannot rely entirely on the state budget.

“The organization of the 2018 Asian Games must be cost-effective,” the Vice President warned, reiterating the highlights of the previous meeting on Asian Games held on March 25 at the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy on Administration Affairs of the Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) Francis Wanandi reported, the sponsors involved in the event that has become the pride of Asia will have 20 months to perform a wide variety of promotions.

“In the Asian Games that will be watched by around 5 million viewers and participated by thousands of athletes from Asia, the sponsors will have the time span of 20 months, not only when the Asian Games is happening,” said Francis.

Francis further explained, there are four sponsorship packages offered, namely the prestige partner, partners, sponsors, and suppliers. The value of sponsorships in each of the packages, according to him, has been discussed with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

“We are aiming for 1.5 trillion rupiah (USD112 million) in sponsorships in the form of cash or other forms,” he said.

In response, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani in the same occasion reminded of the importance of clear rules, especially related to memorandums of understandings with third parties.

Also present in the meeting were Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara, Energy and Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Archandra Taher, Special Staff to the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Devy Suraji, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association Shinta Kamdani, Acting Secretary General of INASGOC Harry Warganegara Harun, INASGOC Director of Marketing Hasani Abdul Gani, INASGOC Director of Promotion Ade Lukman, Head of the Secretariat of the Vice President (Setwapres), Deputy for Policy Support on Human Development and Equity Development of Setwapres Bambang Widianto, Deputy for Administration Affairs of Setwapres Guntur Iman Nefianto, Special Staff to the Vice President on Communications Husain Abdullah , Special Staff to the Vice President for Economic Affairs Wijayanto, and the Vice President’s Expert Team members Sofjan Wanandi and Mohammad Ikhsan.
