Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – The Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin revealed that not all people have the financial ability to buy housing, especially for urban people. This was because the affordability of owning a house was also influenced by housing prices which tended to increase every year, even above the average purchasing power. Therefore, careful financial planning was needed, one of which was saving.

This was stated by the Vice President when he officially launched the Sharia Public Housing Savings (Tapera) virtually, Tuesday (23/8/2022).

“Sharia People’s Housing Savings is one of the means to help realize home ownership for the community, whose needs are increasing, now reaching 12.75 million units,” he said.

Furthermore, the Vice President said that Sharia Tapera was also a manifestation of economic development that was in line with maqashid sharia because it facilitated the needs of the community through the presence of a housing savings scheme that was in accordance with sharia principles.

“The momentum for the launch of Sharia Tapera is also considered very appropriate,” he said.

On the other hand, the Vice President considered that with the increasing public preference for sharia-compliant products/services, the financial services industry had created an attractive new market.

“The increase in people’s preferences is not only seen in the financial services sector and other leading sectors of the Islamic economy, but also occurs in the housing sector,” he explained.

This was also supported by the data released by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) which shows that home financing from Islamic banks reached Rp103.24 trillion as of March 2022, up nearly 12 percent compared to the same period the previous year (year-on-year).

“I also received a report, as of August 2022, there were 6.75 percent of active Tapera participants who expressed interest in Islamic financing principles,” concluded the Vice President. (DMA/LHS, BPMI – Setwapres)
