Jakarta-wapresri.go.id. Regional autonomy that has been implemented during the last 15 years still leaves the issue of staffing. Yet in fact, civil servants should be unifying factor of the nation.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated this when receiving central board members of the Indonesian Civil Servants’ Corps (Korpri) at the Office of the Vice President in Jakarta, Tuesday (July 12).

“That is why we have an idea that civil servants can be moved around between provinces. This to strengthen our national integration,” he argued.

The Vice President also expected that positions in a certain local government can be filled by civil servants from other regions. Besides maintaining unity, such an effort will also lead to the exchange of knowledge and lesson learned between regions.

The Vice President also appreciated the Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi who some time ago has called all governors to fill in echelon 2 and 3 positions by civil servants from other regions.

The Vice President then touched on the improvement of the quality and professionalism of the regional civil servants, using a certification method similar to that applied to teachers across the country.

“We do not want that a civil servant who had previously become the head of a local traditional market then appointed as head of the transportation department,” said the Vice President.

In the meeting, the Vice President conveyed the government’s commitment to reduce the number of civil servants in stages in order to create the ideal posture of bureaucracy that is accordance with the needs and the number of population.

“With the advance of technology, we can reduce the need for human labor to complete a job,” he said.

Also present at the meeting were Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi, Head of Vice President’s Secretariat Mohammad Oemar, Vice President’s Deputy on Public Policy Support Dewi Fortuna Anwar, and Special Staff to the Vice President Syahrul Udjud. (KIP, Setwapres)
