Mataram, wapresri.go.id – For Indonesia’s nation, diversity is a reality that has been recognized by all predecessors and founding fathers when fighting for independence. They were fighting not only for any certain group, but it has been unified with all other components now to fight for the nation. Therefore, the young generation should be the spearhead in keeping diversity.
“No one can deny the huge contribution from all groups, tribes, and religions in our fighting for independence,” said Vice President (VP) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin when inaugurating the opening ceremony of the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) XV of Indonesia Hindus Student Alliance (KMHDI) in Prime Park Hotel, Mataram, Thursday (06/30).
Thus, he continued, Pancasila was born as the consensus from all elements of the nation, as well as the unifying point for all tribes, races, and religions.
“Pancasila is the fundamental anchor of this country which maintains the diversity in unity,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, the VP explained that Pancasila functions as a filter from other nations’ values and understanding. Therefore, the philosophy of Pancasila must be understood by our young generation to avoid negative influence from the international disruption of Indonesian values and traditions.
“As part of global life, we enjoy the high-speed development of technology and information. Foreign culture can easily enter and influence our life,” he said.
Besides foreign culture, the VP is also concerned about the huge number of ideologies and thoughts penetrating the society which are harder to avoid as a result of the rapid development of technology.
“We surely may enjoy the modernization, but the young generation should keep in their mind that they must not lose their nationalism due to external influence,” the VP warned.
At the end of his remarks, the VP asked all the young as the successor and the keeper of national diversity to strengthen their ideology, raising quality awareness of nationalism to maintain thie unity of Indonesia.
“A strong man is not the one who masters others, but the one who unifies all so this nation can live in peace,” he ended. (DMA/LHS, BPMI Setwapres)
