Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – Eid al-Adha that is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice has a social meaning. Every Muslim is encouraged to perform Qurban (slaughtering sacrificial animals) such as goats, cows, or camels and distribute their meats to the poor and needy.
According to the Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, slaughtering sacrificial animals apart is a form of implementing religious guidance, it also has a positive social impact as the meats are distributed to the needed people.
“In addition, Qurban can be a proof of social sensitivity for us to share and care for others, especially after a pandemic recently,” said the Vice President while greeting Muslims for Celebrating Eid al-Adha 1443 H in a video, Saturday (07/09).
For this reason, said the Vice President, Qurban becomes a sunnah muakkad (a sunnah that is highly recommended to be carried out), and there are even scholars who oblige it for its benefits.
“Muslims are highly recommended to perform Qurban at least as a sunnah muakkadah to slaughter a sacrificial animal. Even among the scholars, there are those who believe that Qurban is an obligation for Muslim,” he said.
Furthermore, in the midst of the current outbreak of Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) among cattle, the Vice President appealed to providers of Qurban animals to provide animals free from FMD.
“According to sharia law, it is not valid for sacrificing animals affected by PMK. In addition, the meat from the sacrificial animals will later be distributed and enjoyed by the wider community,” he said.
Lastly, to all Muslims throughout the country, the Vice President wishes them a happy Eid and hopes that this Eid celebration will further strengthen brotherhood among human beings.
“Happy Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijri, hopefully, this Eid celebration may further increase our faith and obedience to Allah SWT,” said the Vice President.
“And in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, hopefully, the spirit of qurban will further strengthen our brotherhood of humanity,” he prayed.
