Jakarta, wapresri.go.id – Vice President (Wapres) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin and Mrs. Hj. Wury Ma’ruf Amin is currently performing hajj in the holy land of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. However, during the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1443 H, the Vice President still performs qurban (slaughtering sacrificial cattle) in several areas in the country.

One of them, the Vice President sacrificed a Simmental Cow weighing 1 ton which was handed over to the sacrificial committee of the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. This cow was delivered by the Head of Planning and Finance Bureau of the Secretariat of the Vice President (Setwapres) Purwono Prihantoro and received by the Head of the Social Affairs and People Empowerment of the Istiqlal Mosque Laksma TNI (Ret.) Asep Saipudin on Saturday (09/07/2022).

“The cows were obtained from a farm in Bogor, West Java to be delivered to the Istiqlal Mosque sacrificial committee,” Purwono answered when asked by the Head of Press, Media and Information Bureau Setwapres Rusmin Nuryadin.

For information, this Eid, the Vice President handed over 18 cows and 7 goats as sacrificial animals. The weight of the cows ranges from 780 kilograms to 1 ton with various types such as Limousine and Simmental.

All of the Vice President’s sacrificial animals have been examined by the Livestock Service or the local Food Security Service and are declared healthy. Therefore, they are eligible to become sacrificial animals. Furthermore, the sacrificial animals were distributed to the Istiqlal Mosque, Sunda Kelapa Mosque, the Indonesian Ulema Council, PBNU, PP Muhammadiyah, as well as several mosques in the Greater Jakarta area.

When conveying Eid greetings to all Muslims, the Vice President emphasized that slaughtering sacrificial animals (Qurban) is an implementation of religious guidance as a form of obedience to Allah SWT. In addition, Qurban also has a positive social impact as the sacrificed meats are distributed to the poor and needy.

“Qurban can be a proof of social sensitivity for us to share and care for others, especially after the current pandemic,” he said.

For this reason, said the Vice President, Qurban becomes a sunnah muakkad (a sunnah that is highly recommended to be carried out), and there are even scholars who oblige it for its benefits.

“Muslims are highly recommended to perform qurban at least as a sunnah muakkadah to slaughter a sacrifice animal. Even among the scholars, there are those who believe that qurban is an obligation for Muslim,” he said. (EP/LHS-BPMI Setwapres)
