Kairo, wapresri.go.id – Undertaking a series of working visits in the Middle East, Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin had the opportunity to visit Indonesian students studying in Egypt. On that occasion, the Vice President advised Indonesian students in Egypt to strengthen Wasathiyah Islam.
“I ask students to strengthen this understanding as part of understanding Islam wasathiyah,” said the Vice President during a meeting with Indonesian students who are studying in Egypt, at the Wisma Duta of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) Cairo, on Saturday evening ( 05/11/2022) local time.
According to the Vice President, maintaining Islam wasathiyah was an effort to contribute to maintaining world peace under the country’s constitution.
“It is also in our country’s constitution to build order, security, and world peace,” said the vice president.
Furthermore, the Vice President acknowledged that the Indonesian population was dominated by people who embrace Islam, but this did not reduce nationalism and commitment to maintaining the integrity of the nation.
“Incidentally, Indonesia is a Muslim majority, but we Muslims maintain the national commitment that we already hold,” explained the Vice President.
Then the Vice President gave an example of the peace steps taken by President Joko Widodo, who recently came directly to Ukraine and Russia on a mission to reconcile the two countries.
“President Jokowi also took steps, with courage whatever the result, but he made peace efforts between Ukraine and Russia, he came alone,” explained the Vice President.
“That is not only a religious order but also a constitutional order to respect human rights,” he added.
Furthermore, the Vice President stated that Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) were state agreements that are irreplaceable in Indonesia.
“I call it maintaining the agreement in the nation and state, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI),” he said.
Closing his remarks, the Vice President emphasized that the integrity of the nation must be maintained as a commitment of the Indonesian people, both for the people of Indonesia and abroad.
“Our Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is the commitment of the entire Indonesian nation and that is what we maintain so that the life of our nation remains intact,” concluded the Vice President.
Present on the occasion were the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Egypt, as well as students and the Indonesian diaspora in Egypt.
Meanwhile, the Vice President was accompanied by Mrs. Hj. Wury Ma’ruf Amin, Head of the Vice President Secretariat Ahmad Erani Yustika, and Special Staff of the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi. (DMA/LHS – BPMI Setwapres)
