Serang, wapresri.go.id – The emergence of the Omicron XBB subvariant has led to new cases of Covid-19 in several countries, one of which is Indonesia. Therefore, to avoid a massive spike in cases, it is necessary to be vigilant from all elements of society, especially in the application of health protocols.

“We have maintained the current health protocol setting, the public still has to wear masks and be careful,” urged Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin in his press conference after attending the 2022 National Santri Day Commemoration event at the An-Nawawi Tanara Islamic Boarding School (Penata), Serang, Banten, Friday (28/10/2022).

Furthermore, the Vice President conveyed that with high caution, people were still asked to carry out their daily activities. The routine was considered to help stabilize the socio-economic wheels of the community that have been built together since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“But don’t interfere with community mobilization, don’t let the economy be disrupted,” said the Vice President.

At the same time, the Vice President also emphasized that the government continues to review developments related to Covid-19. This then became the basis for determining the emergency status in Indonesia during this pandemic.

“The government continues to monitor developments. Therefore, until today we have not changed the status of the pandemic to endemic because we are still observing while also waiting for further instructions from the WHO,” said the Vice President.

Furthermore, the Vice President said that the Ministry of Health had proactively and responsively carried out analyses of the Omicron XBB sub-variant and the potential for new sub-variants to emerge in the future.

“The Ministry of Health is conducting an assessment to find out how dangerous the new variant is,” said the Vice President.

“The government continues to conduct studies and efforts to detect new variants of the Coronavirus,” he concluded.

Present to accompany the Vice President at this press conference was the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga S. Uno, Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency Boy Rafli Amar, and Acting Governor of Banten Al Muktabar. (DMA/LHS-BPMI Setwapres)
