Vice President Disagrees with KOMPOLNAS’s Dissolution

Tangerang, wapresri.go.id – The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) received sharp criticism from Commission III of the DPR RI due to the case of Inspector General Sambo which tarnished the image of the National Police recently. In fact, one member of the DPR said that Kompolnas should be disbanded because of its unclear role.

This criticism was expressed when Commission III of the House of Representatives held a working meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD who was also the Head of Kompolnas, on Monday (22/08/2022).

Also responding to this, Vice President (Wapres) KH Ma’ruf Amin emphasized that he did not agree with the discourse on the dissolution of Kompolnas. Instead, he asked that the role of Kompolnas be strengthened.

“I don’t think Kompolnas should be disbanded, (but) its role should be strengthened, so that it can control properly (and) can provide directions to strengthen the functional role of the National Police,” he said while giving a press statement after inaugurating the Sharia Tower Topping Off on Jl. Prince Antasari Unit CBD-21, Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Tuesday (23/08/2022).

If there is a role that was still not good, the Vice President asked that the role be improved or further strengthened.

“So it’s not just being disbanded, because for example there is a role that is not good, its role should be enlarged, optimized, so that it can provide control, influence, advice, and direction to strengthen the position of the Police,” he stressed again.

“So for me, Kompolnas’ position must be maintained and strengthened,” concluded the Vice President. (DMA/LHS-BPMI Setwapres)
