Jakarta. Vice President Jusuf Kalla wished the completion of electricity transmissions and main stations is done simultaneously with the power plant development being in progress in some regions. By doing so, it is hoped that electricity supplies can be delivered soon after the power plants are completed.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated this in a meeting on electricity attended by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said and state-owned electricity company PT PLN’s president director Sofyan Basir, today at his office.

The PLN’s president director reported that his company will have completed power plant development with the total capacity of 17,488 MW from the targeted 35,000 MW in five years until 2019.

Mr Basir continued, PLN is also building some 1,375 main stations, yet he faced a problem in land acquisition, especially in the city areas like Jakarta.

To cope with the problem, the Vice President asked PLN to give proper compensation for the land owned by the public, as the value is relatively small compared to the total investment.

Minister Said reminded PLN to stay focused on the projects arranged and to improve the internal structure, behavior and culture of the company.

“This is to anticipate the much anticipated abundant electric supplies in the future that PLN has to manage,” said the minister.

Concluding the meeting, the Vice President stated his dream of PLN that will not only function as electricity producer but also as electricity distributor and vendor.

“PLN in the future should become a big company with subsidiary companies managing electric supplies in the regions independently and autonomously,” he said.
