Banyuasin, wapresri.go.id – Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin today inaugurated the opening of the XIX Plenary Session of the Association of Indonesian Faculty of Economics and Business (AFEBI) and the 2022 Halal Indonesia Summit at the Wyndham Hotel Ballroom, Jl. Governor of HA Bastari, Sungai Kedukan, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, Wednesday (07/09/2022).
After opening the two events, at the same location, the Vice President had the opportunity to walk in the exhibition stand for superior halal products in South Sumatra Province. One of the exhibition stands that grabbed the attention of the Vice President was the stand for traditional weavers from Palembang “Dua Saudara”.
The reason was, according to the owner, Zainab, that her weaving business was not only meant to carry on cultural heritage but also to help out-of-school children.
“We provide weaving training for children who have dropped out of school or who do not continue to higher education,” Zainab told the Vice President.
Knowing this, the Vice President appreciated her and hopes that her traditional weaving business would continue to develop and continue to have young weavers.
“These weavers now have to develop a new generation of weavers,” he hoped.
In this place, the Vice President saw one of the workers weaving with a traditional loom.
“How long does it take to finish one sheet of woven cloth?” asked the Vice President.
Answering the Vice President’s question, Zainab also explained that it could take one to two months to make one sheet of woven cloth.
“It could take a month and a half, sir, depending on the motif and the thread,” replied Zainab.
Not only witnessing the manufacturing process, the Vice President was also seen buying several sets of Palembang woven fabrics with the “Cantik-Manis” and “Limar-Papan Sekeping” Patterns that were displayed on the stand.
Accompanied by the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, the Vice President then continued to review other product stands. (DMA/LHS-BPMI Setwapres)
